I was in today’s FYI section of the KC Star. You can click on the link to see the web verision. Here is my unabridged version of the interview.
Name / Title: Nathan Reusch - The Record Machine The song that always gets stuck in my head: Lately it has been Richard Swift- Lady Luck. His new record The Atlantic Ocean has such a classic sound to it. Lady Luck has this great classic soul feel to it. Whenever I listen to the record I always find myself just leaving that song on repeat for a few times. What makes me laugh: I have been enjoying the show How I Met Your Mother. I love how they go from the absurd humor to something more sincere at the drop of a hat and how well it really works. I saw Adventureland and went home got the soundtrack right away. It has way more heart then the trailer lets on. The last expensive thing I bought was: I just bought my first house in Waldo late last October. After 8 years of apartment life it is really nice to have my own house where I don’t have to wake up to the sounds of a vacuum or neighbors hula hoop hitting the hardwood floors. I collect: These weird little noise synths. I am always looking for new music toys to make weird sounds. If you search around on ebay you can find tons of great little noisemakers. The ones I always end up getting just have a few buttons and knobs but make sounds that are out of this world. They are great making the kind of sound that won’t show up on someone else’s record.
My favorite souvenir was: I visited New York City a few years ago and while in Chinatown I bought this brown pinstripe fisherman’s cap for $5. I still wear it all the time and I have never found a hat that fits me as well. I recently had some drunk guy try to buy it from me for $40 dollars but I just couldn’t part with it. My theme song is: The Replacements - Unsatisfied Like I said earlier I just sawAdventureland and it reminded me how much I love that song. It makes me want to push myself harder to do more work and not be satisfied with just doing the status quo.
If I took a year off from work I would: I would honestly end up just trying to work and do The Record Machine full time. I don’t think there is anything I would rather be doing with myself.
I love Mondays because? It is the return of my DVR having new shows for me to watch. I always have about 3-5 shows I am recording that night. I am really hoping NBC doesn’t cancel Chuck. I think it is one of the best shows on right now. Also I am always interested what music is going to show up in different shows. It is has been nice to hear my friends in Republic Tigers on Chuck and Gossip Girl this season.
